Favorite Bars in Oslo, Norway: Bar Boca

Tiny. Custom built fifties interior. Classic cocktails and historically authentic drinks.  Welcome to Bar Boca.

There are three drinks that distinguish a good bar (or bartender) from an average or even bad one: bloody mary, classic margarita and dry martini. If you get a perfect bloody mary or margarita, you know you’re in good hands.

At Bar Boca, they serve the best bloody marys in Oslo. And the best classic margaritas. And the best dry martinis. Add to that a drink menu where you find classics like sidecar and oddities like Moscow mule, bartenders with sideburns who dress like James Dean and the fact that the owner, Jan Vardøen, has more or less built the interior himself… You see where I’m going?

Bar Boca is located in Grünerløkka, a part of Oslo that has kind of a bohemian atmosphere, especially during the summer months. Since it is so small, it often gets crowded – but if you get there relatively early it is usually possible to get a seat at one of the 4-5 tables.

Some Wednesdays are Triple C Club nights, the three C’s standing for Champagne, Cocktails & Crooning. The artists sticks to the fifties theme, as you can see in this video of Richard Bowers at the Triple C Club in March 2010.

.. or in this video of the Icelandic acappella band 3 Voices & Beatur, singing at Bar Boca in September 2010.

If you are looking for uncompromising quality when it comes to drinks, an intimate atmosphere and a back-to-the-fifties-feel, Bar Boca is the place.
